No. “Bitch I’m Madonna” is not a song off Britney Spears’ 2011 Femme Fatale album. It does resemble “Seal With It A Kiss” to a high degree, but it’s actually a new song off Madonna’s upcoming 2015 album, Rebel Heart. For people who are closely watching pop music, it’s a major disappointment for two big reasons. First, Britney is just Madonna’s subordinate royalty. Second, Bitch, she is Madonna. Thus, if you are looking for a refreshingly innovative song, this is not the one for you. However, “Bitch I’m Madonna” has two of the biggest names in music today. It could be enough reason for you to take it seriously.
Nicki Minaj is ending 2014 with a bang. She is a part of a high-profile collaboration with Ariana Grande and Jessie J., she released The Pinkprint featuring some music bigwigs like Beyonce, and now, she even reaches greater heights by collaborating with no less than the Queen of Pop, Madonna. Nicki Minaj did not fail her supporters by doing well in this song. Albeit short, her part in the duet is inviting. It added a twist to a rather plain dance track.
For her part, Madonna channels more of her innate dancefloor diva persona, and focuses her energy to making the song a club success. And it works. If the song does not make you want to dance, then you should question your humanity. However, It’s not the material expected from Madonna. Twenty years ago, she would never settle for a record that is less than spectacular. With her massive success in the industry, there is no way she would downplay her ability as a musician. Unless Madonna is trying to bring back the attention to what is the trend four years ago, there is no way “Bitch I’m Madonna” can be music’s latest trendsetter.
On the average, there is nothing new the lyrics offer. Is there really a need for Madonna to reintroduce herself? Is it really necessary for her to ask people who they think they are? The best thing about the entire song though is the reminder of who Madonna was before this record. It’s probably better if she used a bit of subtlety in the song. She should have created a badass record instead of blatantly asserting she is a bad bitch.
